We’re on day three of our stay here in Canada but, today was our first day of competition. After a long week of training and travel we were all really pumped to put on our uniforms and play a game. We took on the Japan Elite team in our first game of the season and were challenged as they are a solid team and played us in a tough 1-0 game. While we would have liked to give ourselves a few more insurance runs, it was great for our team to get out on the field and get comfortable in game situations. Now that we have the first game out of the way we can relax and play.
Tomorrow morning bracket play is continued as we take on Puerto Rico at 10:30am. Later in the afternoon we will be participating in the opening ceremonies. The Canada Cup has a tradition of having a pretty entertaining celebration with singers and dancers and all kinds of fun things. We’ll see what they have in store for us tomorrow!
Personally, I am very excited to be back at the Canada Cup for a few reasons. First of all it is ALWAYS amazing wearing red, white and blue in another country and representing all of you back home. Second, this part of Canada has exceptionally beautiful scenery. Finally, and some might say most importantly (Jhaha), I am excited that they are still selling the infamous mini doughnuts that anyone who has been to the Canada Cup has enjoyed!! Honestly, they are the yummiest little treats (and I don’t even like doughnuts)! Our van (Kretch, Mendoza, Cat, Vicky and I) made a deal that one of us will buy two bags when we leave the field each day so that we can enjoy them on the drive home. Hopefully by splitting the bags between the five of us will we can have them and still be able to run the bases the next gameJ.
Thanks for all the support back home. We can’t wait to get to OKC and play in front of OUR fans!
